FASHION DESIGNER GARETH PUGH REVEALED THE INSPIRATION BEHIND HIS FIRST PIECE OF FINE JEWELLERY

Mumbai Oct 16th 2013(Sailesh Gandhi):   Forevermark, the diamond brand from the De Beers Group of Companies, announced its collaboration with British fashion designer, Gareth Pugh today. On the occasion, Mr. Sachin Jain, President, Forevermark India unveiled Gareth’s first fine jewellery piece at The Palladium Hotel, Mumbai.
 

Featuring over a hundred natural and untreated precious Forevermark diamonds, this armour-like piece was worn by actor Jacqueline Fernandez at the unveiling. Designed as a part of the Forevermark Promise Campaign, Gareth spoke about the inspiration and journey behind his design as he learnt about the unique promise inscribed on every Forevermark diamond. Set in stainless steel and Titanium, this piece was brought to life with cutting-edge digital mapping and 3D technology. The neckpiece has about 5600 diamonds, adding upto 91.98 carats

THE INSPIRATION 

The design process for Gareth began earlier this year during his trip to the Orapa diamond mine in Botswana, where he came to understand the incredible story behind each Forevermark diamond. From seeing and handling rough diamonds, Gareth witnessed their transformation into beautiful polished gems at an Authorised Forevermark Diamantaires cutting and polishing factory. One part of the operation that he found particularly compelling was the alliance between age-old craft and advanced technology. Gareth knew immediately that he wanted that relationship to be part of the story of this piece. 

THE CREATION

Following this creative path, Gareth developed the idea of working with a unique set of contradictions. “The design was brought into existence in a most innovative way: utilising the power of technology – through digital body-mapping and 3D printing – combined with the knowledge and authority of experienced craftsmanship," said Pugh.  And the paradoxes continue with natural and untreated Forevermark diamonds, which are billions of years old, being set within a stainless steel base, built using completely new technology.  

Pugh also explained, “The inspiration behind the neck-piece comes from my idea of what a promise is – an unbreakable bond. Coming back to Forevermark, it’s about the reciprocal relationship that they have with the communities they support. It’s not about taking, it’s about giving something back. The piece closes with a titanium pin which is set with a diamond on the top. I really liked the idea of using that as a signifier of an unbreakable bond.”

This spectacular design was unveiled for the first time in Hong Kong on the 8^th of August at an event attended by Gareth.  The neck-piece will soon be revealed in China, Japan and the U.S.

The campaign also features online interactions at www.forevermark.com/promise allowing consumers to make a promise to a loved one connected to a specific location and place.  The recipient will receive a personal note informing them of the very special promise that awaits them when in the relevant location.

Educated at London’s Central Saint Martins, Pugh’s clothes have been described as wearable sculptures – experimental forms, volumes and fabrics are all signature to his ever evolving style. A textural mash up where PVC, Perspex and parachute silk meet luxury mink, leather and cashmere.

 

Pugh made his London Fashion Week debut in February 2005, as part of the Fashion East line-up. His first solo show at London Fashion Week came in 2006, with Topshop NEWGEN sponsorship. In 2007 he was invited to present his work as part of the V&A’s Fashion In Motion showcase. It was around this time that Pugh’s collections began to garner the highest critical phase. “An incredible, unmissable show… his genius is undeniable,” said British Vogue of his SS 2007 collection. Later that year, the designer’s work was selected to feature in Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy at the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In July 2008, Pugh won the ANDAM Fashion Award, presenting his first show in Paris the following September. He went on to present his first menswear collection in Paris in January 2009.

 

The designer’s clothes are stocked internationally and in August 2010, he opened his first flagship store in Hong Kong: a stylized demonstration of his aesthetic, complete with LCD video wall designed to present up-to-date digital content. A leading proponent of fashion film and new technology, Pugh frequently collaborates with director Ruth Hogben and is a regular collaborator to SHOWstudio.com, photographer Nick Knight's award-winning website. In January 2011, Pugh undertook perhaps his most ambitious film project to date; having been selected as the guest designer at Italian trade show Pitti, he presented a special collection via a large-scale video installation projected on the ceiling of a 14th century chapel, in a powerful collision between art history and fashion's digital future. 

The designer has worked with some of the world’s most celebrated artists and institutions - including a recent collaboration with Wayne McGregor at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden - and continues to work closely with the leading editorial and creative forces in the fashion and entertainment industries.

Mumbai Oct 19th 2013(Sailesh Gandhi): Taaza Plaza, a unique ‘retail store on wheels’ concept was launched in Mumbai on Wednesday by Shri Radhakrishna Eknathrao Vikhe Patil, Hon. Minister for  Agriculture and Marketing.  

Taaza Plaza is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between Star Agriwarehousing & Collateral Management Ltd. (StarAgri) along with Fuzion Inc. Pvt. Ltd. (Fuzion) and the Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board (MSAMB). It is built on the model of sourcing directly from farmer groups across agri-states and making fresh produce available to the end consumer by bypassing intermediaries.

Each state-of-the-art van is designed keeping in mind Indian weather conditions where vegetables, fruits and other FMCG products are stored in a smart climate controlled mobile environment. The “retail on wheels” shops visit housing societies and similar busy intersections where common people like homemakers can buy their daily produce without actually travelling to a super-market. The brand promises Convenience and Purity (freshness) at competitive prices.

In the next 24 months the company plans to launch a total of over 250 Taaza Plaza vans across the state. Currently the mobile retail vans serve Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, including Virar, Vashi, Panvel, Nerul and Dombivali. 

Inaugurating the initiative, Shri Radhakrishna Eknathrao Vikhe Patil, Hon. Minister for  Agriculture and Marketing said, “The Maharashtra Government is committed to the welfare our farmer brethren and we believe a direct sourcing model will benefit them. With the rising prices of essential foods, especially vegetables and fruits, it is our endeavour to keep prices under control. Thus, consumers get their daily needs and farmers get best price realisation. We look forward to making Maharashtra one of most competitive and farmer friendly agri-states.” 

Additional Chief Secretary Dr. S.K. Goel said, “Public Private Partnerships like Taaza Plaza is the way forward to create a ‘win-win’ model that is inclusive and not only empowers our farmers but also helps customers get fresh food at great prices. In Mumbai this unique concept will bring the retail store to your doorstep. MSAMB will facilitate ideas like this which help our farmers gain economic prosperity.” 

Ms. Sharmila Banerjee, Founder, ED and CEO, Taaza Plaza said, “First, we would like to thank Shri Radhakrishna Eknathrao Vikhe Patil, Hon. Minister for Agriculture and Marketing for blessing the idea that is today called Taaza Plaza. Recently, for the shoot of STAR DIWALI – Thodi si Muskan, Dher sara Pyar, Deepika Singh aka Sandhya of Diya aur baati Hum arrived on set even before the crew. She was also caught telling people on the set that for her time is money and she hates delay.

Sources say Deepika was on set half an hour before call time and was seen gearing up for her performance at the show. “From the time Deepika entered she was looking very energetic and she was definitely excited for her performance at Star Diwali,” says a source.

“I live by punctuality; I don’t like people keeping me waiting so I practice the same. I like to be before or on time but never late it’s something I have always lived by,” says the petite actress.
