Mumbai Oct 15th 2013(Sailesh Gandhi): It is an official event of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). It started in 2002 to establish a dedicated circuit for junior players. The event has grown from about 400 players in 8 events in 2002, to 2200 players in 31 events in 2012. India is one of the active associations in
organizing one of the events. India has organized this event on five occasions – 2006 (Kolkatta), 2007 (Goa), 2008 (Pune), 2009 (Indore) and 2011 (Dehradun).

Advantages of organizing the event in India: India receives double the entries in each event. Indian players get exposure and help them improve their world rankings. It helps improve organizing capabilities and hones skills of technical officials. It promotes and spreads the game in different places. It helps generate resources for development
activities.

1983: Commonwealth Championships at Khar Gymkhana
In addition, most recently, this year, the Peter Karlsson Advance Camp
was organized at the University Pavilion, Marine Lines.
About the MCDTTA: The Mumbai City District Table Tennis Association (MCDTTA) is a registered Charitable Trust and the apex body for table tennis activities in the city of Mumbai. Mumbai was the home of table tennis and has produced some of the finest players of the country which includes many Arjuna Awardees, National champions, International
players and coaches who have worn national colours with pride.
We understand, to develop the game in the long term we must invest in the future. To achieve this goal, the association, in the last four years has organized about 40 activities at school, district, state and national levels to promote and develop table tennis. This consistent effort has certainly made a positive impact on the performances of our players at all levels.
In the last State Championships our players won nine medals, the highest in the last 10 years, four of our players were ranked in the country and two have represented India.
As the next step, the association has brought to Mumbai, for the first time in 30 years, the Reliance 2013 India Junior & Cadet Open.
