Amway celebrates ‘White Cane Day’ in association with National Association for the visually challenged

World Change Starts with Educated Children

Mumbai Oct 15th 2013(Sailesh Gandhi): Reiterating its commitment to the holistic growth and development of the visually challenged in India, Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Amway India observed White Cane Day with National Association of Blind (NAB) in Mumbai.

AOF presented  white canes to beneficiaries of NAB.  The key objective of the event was to educate the public about the right technique in guiding the visually challenged to cross the road and an appeal to all the motorists and pedestrians to allow the visually challenged to enjoy unhindered and safe mobility. Live demonstrations were held at key high traffic locations of Mumbai. It is for the tweleth consecutive year  AOF is celebrating White Cane Day at 16 locations across India by gifting more than 3000 white canes to visually challenged people.

The event was inaugurated at 10.00a.m,  at NAB (I) head office, Braille Press, Worli Seaface, Mumbai . Present on the occasion were Mr. Sandeep Prakash, Regional Head, Amway India West, Mr. K. Rama krishnan, Hon Secretary General, NAB(I), Mr. Raman Shanker, Director NAB(I), Mrs. Pallavi Kadam , Deputy Director NAB(I), Mr. Athalekar, Honorary Secretary , NAB(I), Mr. Jignesh Mehta, Manager Corporate Communications Amway  India, Amway staff and distributors.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sandeep Prakash, Regional Head, Amway India (west) said  “We at Amway are extremely proud to be associated with NAB for the event. We have been consistently supporting the World White Cane Day for past eleven years. Our relationship now has become even stronger today with a clear focus of enabling the visually challenged friends to have a better future.”

Mr. K. Rama krishnan, Hon Secretary General , NAB(I) added with similar sentiments “My heart fills with joy watching our friends getting benefited.  We are thankful to Amway Opportunity Foundation for coming forward to help us by way of presenting white canes.”
