Mumbai SEP 27th 2013(Sailesh Gandhi): With the objective of sensitizing tourism fraternity and public at large, Maharashtra Tourism has rightly taken up the theme of women safety this year announcing various initiatives towards the same. The initiatives aim to cultivate a worldwide awareness of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values and to implement a code of conduct for safety of women tourists in the state.
Ms Kishore Gadre, General Manager, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) said, “It is the responsibility of tourism sector to take a leadership and ensure safe and sustainable tourism in the world. Safety is the major issue and constraint of tourism growth in India. Thankfully, Maharashtra and Mumbai are still the safest regions in the country but still we must ensure that the overall experience of women tourists is improved and they must be treated with respect.”
Being the stakeholders of Tourism, all concerned authorities must come together and take initiative in eradicating crime against women and to increase confidence among them, was the key discussion held by MTDC. Also present at the event were, Shri Krishna Prakash, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police, South Region, Ms. Pramali Rajani, Deputy General Manager, MTDC and Ms Smita Gulvady, Vice President & Head-Centre of Learning of Thomas Cook (India) Ltd.
World Tourism Day would serve as an excellent opportunity to bring a sense of safety amongst women Hence, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation decided to celebrate world Tourism Day on 27th September 2013 with a theme of women safety.
