Mumbai Sep 25th 2013(Sailesh Gandhi): More than 30 of the state’s leading food and beverage, sustainable urban design and ICT businesses have arrived in Mumbai as part of the Victorian Coalition Government’s latest trade mission to India.
Employment and Trade Minister Louise Asher said the Victoria Week Trade Mission, which had previously visited the United Arab Emirates, would showcase Victoria’s world class business, lifestyle and sustainability strengths in the dynamic Indian market.
“This is Victoria’s ninth trade mission to India in the last two years, reflecting our Government’s commitment to supporting local businesses to expand into this large and fast-growing market,” Ms Asher said.
“The different segments of the mission will travel to Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar for business matching programs and major trade and industry events, including the Annapoorna World of Food India trade fair in Mumbai and the Watertech conference in Gandhinagar.”
Since December 2010, the Victorian Coalition Government has led more than 2,300 Victorian businesses and organisations on 63 trade missions to countries including China, India, the UAE, the USA, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and Korea.
Participating business have reported expected export sales of more than $3.6 billion in the 24 month period following the missions they took part in.
In Mumbai, six export-focused Victorian lamb, wine, grains and pulses, and general food companies are represented at the Annapoorna World of Food India trade fair, which attracts more than 6000 trade buyers from 30 countries.
Delivering a special address at Annapoorna, Ms Asher said Victoria had earned an outstanding international reputation as a secure, reliable and competitive producer and exporter of safe, high quality, fresh food.
“Victorian food and beverage producers achieve the highest quality products through superior traceability and safety processes, while our production efficiencies deliver competitive costs and guarantee safe transport to overseas markets, including India,” she said.
“Our presence here at Annapoorna represents a unique opportunity to showcase Victoria’s premium food and beverage products to thousands of Indian buyers and distributors.”
As part of Victoria Week, Ms Asher will also attend a Media Masterclass with leading Melbourne-based celebrity chef, Gary Mehigan and an Indian Film Festival of Melbourne event in Mumbai further highlighting the state’s food and beverage strengths.
Ms Asher also announced during the mission that the Victorian Government will again be a Distinguished Partner of the Australia India Youth Dialogue in 2014.
“The Dialogue seeks to cultivate and foster the Australia India relationship through our young leaders,” Ms Asher said.
“By creating a dialogue between our young people, the event provides a deeper cultural insight and understanding of the similarities and differences between our respective cultures.”
The Victoria Week program is supported by the Victorian Government Business Offices in Bangalore and Mumbai, which provide practical assistance and market intelligence to Victorian companies operating in India.
