Vettel, Merkel Win Big and Hon’ble Shri Praful Patel, Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises
Mumbai Sep 23rd 2013(Sailesh Gandhi): The 57th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) was held at a South Mumbai five star hotel on 22nd September 2013 and in the presence of Chief Guest, Hon’ble Shri Praful Patel, Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Goverment of India and Guest of Honour, H.E. Michael Steiner, German Ambassador to India. This year the AGM featured the live telecast of the Formular 1 Grand Prix (Singapore) which was won by S. Vettel and the German Election Results saw Angela Merkel's party the CDU win big ensuring her 3rd term as German Chancellor.
In the presence of over 600 members the new office-bearers of the IGCC for the year 2013-2014 were elected:
1. President - Dr. Armin Bruck, Managing Director Siemens Ltd. India
2. Vice President - Dr. Tapan Singhel, Managing Director & CEO Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co. Ltd.
3. Treasurer - Joerg Strassburger, Country Representative & Managing Director, LANXESS India Pvt. Ltd. continues to be the Honorary Treasurer of the IGCC
Minister Sri Praful Patel along with Ambassador Steiner and Mr. Bernhard Steinruecke, Director General of the IGCC inaugurated the Product Display Exhibition by 30 IGCC member companies before the start of the AGM. The outgoing President, Mr. V.K. Vishwanathan, Chairman, Bosch Limited, gave the Welcome Address followed by speeches by Minister Sri Praful Patel, Ambassador Steiner and Mr. Siegfried Herzog, Regional Director South Asia , Friedrich Naumann-Foundation.
A Carrera Racetrack was set-up at the venue and kept the guests entertained.
The German Election Results saw Chancellor Merkel’s party the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) leading by more than 42% ensuring her 3rd term as the Chancellor. Whether the next government will be a coalition government and if so in which constellation is yet to be decided.
The IGCC Award for outstanding contribution towards the promotion of Indo-German Economic Relations was given to LANXESS India Pvt. Ltd. and the award for outstanding export performance by an Indo-German joint venture was given to Scientific Publishing Services (P) Ltd and KHS Machinery Private Limited.
The Dr. Guenter Krueger Awards for Excellence, giving to an outstanding student of each of the Indo-German Training Centers (IGTC) was presented by Ambassador Steiner to Sudhir Suresh Shet (Bangalore), R Mathangi (Chennai), Abhijit Mukherjee (Kolkata) and Ashwin Jayaraman Mumbai). The award ceremony was followed by the lucky draw of the two free Lufthansa tickets.
The latest Indo-German statistics were also announced with Maharashtra attracting the maximum German investments -With investments worth over US $218.6 million and a 25.4% share, Maharashtra - as always - attracted maximum German investments during the last financial year i.e. Apr.’12-Mar’13. Karnataka was the second most important destination for German investments last year with investments to the tune of US $121.4 million and a share of 14.1%. Andhra Pradesh was at the 3rd position moving up from its 5th position in the previous year. German investments into this region amounted to US $38.3 million with a share of 4.5%.
